BON SECOURS NEWS Bon
Secours-Holy Family Regional Health
System Appoints New CEO
MARRIOTTSVILLE, MD,
May 31, 2002
Daniel S. Duggan has been named chief executive officer of Bon
Secours-Holy Family Regional Health System. Duggan has been
acting CEO since January and has more than 25 years of health
care experience.
The announcement was made by Thomas G. Peoples Jr.,
chairperson of the Bon Secours-Holy Family Board of Directors,
and Charles W. Neumann, senior vice president-operations for
the South-East Division of Bon Secours Health System Inc. A
board-appointed search committee evaluated an extensive field
of candidates, relying on input from local management, board
members and medical staff.
"We are extremely pleased to have someone of Dan's ability and
background to provide visionary leadership for Bon
Secours-Holy Family," Peoples said. "With his clinical
experience, professional credentials and personal attributes,
he is well-suited to take on the challenges we face in our
industry and our marketplace."
"Dan's appointment ensures uninterrupted growth and expansion
of the ministry in Blair County of the Sisters of the Holy
Family of Nazareth and the Sisters of Bon Secours, who
cosponsor our health system," according to Neumann.
Sister Anne Lutz, C.B.S., senior vice president of sponsorship
for the Northeast Division of Bon Secours Health System Inc.,
commented: "Dan is committed to the healing mission and values
of Bon Secours and his appointment reaffirms our commitment to
strong leadership at Bon Secours-Holy Family."
Duggan came to Bon Secours-Holy Family as vice president of
patient care/chief nursing officer in April 2000. The Navy
veteran received his bachelor's in nursing from California
State University at Chico. He came to Altoona from Samaritan
Health System of Watertown, N.Y., where he was vice president
of patient care services for nine years.
"I chose to come to Bon Secours-Holy Family originally because
I saw a progressive organization that was well beyond other
community hospitals its size in terms of scope of patient
services," Duggan said. "Even more than that, though, I was
attracted by the mission of the hospital to care for the whole
patient - body, mind and spirit - in a family-centered
environment."
Duggan is an active member of several organizations, including
the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Rotary Club
of Altoona and the Blair County Chamber of Commerce. He and
his wife Trudy of 27 years reside in Altoona. They have two
grown children.
