July 22, 2003
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – During its June 22-25, 2003 International
Conference in Las Vegas, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
awarded Lawrence B. Sawyer Awards to the Bon Secours Health System,
New York Life Insurance Company, the University of Illinois, Dollar
General Corporation, IIA-China, the Tulsa Chapter, and the
Newfoundland & Labrador Chapter.
The Sawyer Award measures growth during four consecutive Certified
Internal Auditor (CIA) exam cycles, and is based on CIA representation
by percentage of organization members who are CIAs, percentage
increase of new CIA candidates, and CIA candidate performance. The
award is named for Lawrence B. Sawyer, CIA, a highly acclaimed author,
educator, internal auditing leader, and lifelong advocate of The IIA
and its CIA program.
For nearly three decades, The IIA’s premier certification, the
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation, has reflected competence
in the principles and practices of internal auditing and has served as
the only internationally accepted designation for internal auditors.
Nearly 40,000 have attained the CIA designation worldwide.
