Lowell Jones of London, Ky., has been named
interim chief executive officer of Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital in
Norton.
Jones comes to Wise County after years of
experience in leadership positions in faith-based hospitals in Kentucky.
"Lowell will
be an excellent leader for St. Mary's," said Peter J. Bernard, senior
vice president South Division. "His record of achievement in hospitals
is outstanding. He is recognized for recruiting physicians, developing
new services and a close rapport with the community."
"Lowell is
committed to the values of Catholic health care," said Sister Rosemary
Smith. "We are delighted that he has chosen to lead us during this
transition. His background in faith-based hospitals in rural areas
provides him with insight into the qualities that we desire in a leader
at St. Mary's."
Jones will
report to St. Mary's on May 1, providing time for a smooth transition in
leadership. Current CEO Luther Reeves, who submitted his resignation
earlier this month, will remain at the hospital until May 15.
Jones spent
many years at Marymount Medical Center in London. He also worked for
Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin and Our Lady of the Way
Hospital in Martin. In addition, he was vice president of government
relations for Catholic Health Initiatives in Kentucky.
"The Sisters
who began this work strive not for any economic reward, but to offer the
same level high quality care as provided to people in urban areas,"
Jones said.
"I've been in
many Catholic hospitals, and each one delivers services in a personal,
caring way that is unique," Jones observed.
Jones has
served as chairman of the board of the Kentucky Hospital Association,
president of the London/Laurel County Chamber of Commerce and on the
board of directors of the Cumberland Valley Area Development District.
Both his bachelor and master's degrees are from Eastern Kentucky
University.
St. Mary's
joined the Bon Secours Health System in July 2002 while enjoying the
continuing presence of the previous sponsors, Sisters, Poor Servants of
the Mother of God. The Hospital has served the communities in Wise
County and surrounding counties for 55 years.
Bon Secours Health System, based in Marriottsville, Md., is a $2.5
billion not-for-profit Catholic health system that owns, manages or
joint ventures 24 acute care, nine long-term care, eight assisted living
and independent living, and other facilities, primarily on the East
Coast. Bon Secours Health System consists of more than 28,000 caregivers
serving 15 communities in nine states.
