Bon Secours Health System Welcomes New President
and CEO

Marriottsville, MD, February 1, 2005 – On Tuesday, February 1st, Richard J. Statuto took the helm of Bon Secours Health System as president and chief executive officer. Statuto originally came to Bon Secours in 1987 as the vice president of planning and marketing. He left Bon Secours in 1990 to work for St. Joseph Health System in Orange, California. In 1995, he was named president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph Health and remained in that position until 2004.

Statuto succeeds Christopher M. Carney, who announced in June 2004 his plan to retire from the Health System in 2005. Carney will continue to support the health system, working on special projects, through his retirement in August 2005. Statuto’s appointment came after an in-depth national search for Carney’s successor.

Statuto graduated from Vanderbilt University and Xavier University with a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration, respectively. His diverse career spans 24 years and includes product line management and branding at Procter and Gamble and operations improvement, financial management, and new business development consulting with Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte Touche). In his prior position with BSHSI Statuto was responsible for strategic planning, marketing, service line and new business development. “I am looking forward to working with BSHSI and the Sisters of Bon Secours,” stated Statuto. “It is the people and this ministry that excite me most. This health system has grown tremendously over the years and its people have contributed to their communities in so many significant ways. I feel honored to be returning to my roots in Catholic health care.”

Bon Secours Health System, Inc., based in Marriottsville, Maryland, is a not-for-profit Catholic health system that owns or manages, directly or through joint ventures, 20 acute care, eight long-term care and eight assisted living, independent living and other facilities, primarily on the east coast.
