Bon Secours Mourns the Death
of Pope John Paul II
April 2,
2005
The Sisters of Bon Secours, USA,
and the Bon Secours Health System express their deep sorrow
over the death of Pope John Paul II. Even as we mourn his
passing from our lives, we celebrate his memory, and his gifts
to the Church and the world. The Holy Father, in his life and
in his words, gave witness to the dignity of each person, and
called us to create a more just and humane world. We join with
our sisters and brothers in prayer; and we ask God’s blessing
upon Pope John Paul II.
Pope
John Paul II
1920 – 2005
Karol Józef Wojtyla, who became known as Pope John Paul II
since his October 1978 election to the papacy, was the first
non-Italian pope in 455 years. He is believed to have served
longer than any other pope except Pope Pius IX (1846-1878).
During his Pontificate, Pope John Paul II traveled throughout
the world, and earned the respect and devotion of people from
all faiths and cultures.
