Mary Immaculate Hospital is the Site Of Region’s First Anterior Access Procedure

Marriottsville, Maryland, March 4, 2008  -- Dr. Anthony Carter performed the East Coast’s first anterior access hip resurfacing procedure, which relieves hip pain and improves hip function by replacing hip parts that have been severely damaged by degenerative joint diseases. This procedure, performed in January at Mary Immaculate Hospital, part of Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System, is a tissue-sparing surgery that provides numerous benefits to the patient, including a smaller surgical incision, reduced post-surgical pain, a shortened hospital stay, and a faster recovery than typically experienced with a traditional total hip replacement.
